Collection of newspaper cuttings relating to household management and local news ofpeople and places, 1890-1915

Scope and Content

The scrapbook that comprises this collection bears the identification 'Newspaper Cuttings' ingilt on its front cover. The most frequent subjects are recipes for cookery and remedies, such as arecipe for 'Calf's Foot Blancmange'. Other household hints include 'Directions for restoring theapparently drowned', 'How to get to sleep', and 'Care of room plants'. The scrapbook also containsreports of marriages and deaths. The last cutting to be pasted into the scrapbook is an articleabout the High Pavement Chapel, Nottingham. There are references to Nottinghamshire people in othercuttings.

Journals from which cuttings have been taken include 'The Bolton Evening News', 'The MorningPost', 'The Northampton Daily News', 'The Bolton Advertiser', 'The Kettering Leader', 'The Times',and 'The Guernsey Weekly Press'. Dated items refer to the period 1890-1915. Not all sources can beidentified.
