Report on the various lines by which a railway could be carried from London to Porth Dinllaen in north Wales, made by Charles B. Vignoles, Civil Engineer. It is addressed to the Commissioners for Enquiring into the best system of Railway Communications through Ireland. The document is written in a clear hand and bears evidence to the logical precision and professional ability of the great railway engineer.

Administrative / Biographical History
In 1844 the construction of the Chester and Holyhead Railway was authorised in order to speed up communication between London and Ireland. As a result, Holyhead grew into an important port. Previously, proposals had been made for the railway route to go from Bangor to Porth Dinllaen.
