Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
John Westwood was Head of Design at Her Majesty's Stationary Office. He aimed to collect examples of good printing and design. He was especially interested in travel and the collection includes a large number of posters for organisations such as Transport for London and British Railways. Westwood also felt an affinity to Zurich and collected items relating to the city.
His collection includes items by well known designers such as Robert Fenton and Tom Eckersley.
As well as reflecting fashions in design the items also reflect social trends for example, many posters advertise pursuits for tourists and show the locations social highlights, architecture and fashion.
