Administrative / Biographical History
The Partido Obrero Unificacin Marxista (POUM), Spanish Communist Party, was founded in 1935. Initially part of the Popular Front, electoral coalition, its leaders left the government when POUM's more radical proposals were not accepted. The party was particularly strong in Catalonia and the number of supporters grew rapidly during the Spanish Civil War.
The postcards were possibly produced to raise support in the Catalonian region in POUM's conflict with the Spanish Communist Party.

The postcards were transferred to Archives from the Main Library and were probably deposited in the Library by Robert E.Dowse, a former LSE student, later professor at Exeter University and the University Western Australia.
