Tickhill Parish Council was formed as a result of the dissolution of Tickhill Urban District by the 1972 Local Governmenr Act. Section 245 of this Act enabled parish councils to style themselves town councils and to call the chairman of the parish council the town mayor. Tickhill Parish Council met for the first time on 21 August 1973 and resolved to be known thereafter as Tickhill Town Council.
