Diary of Luke Norman in Central Africa

Scope and Content

A copy by Mr R. Hobson of Norman's diary of his African expedition, the original of which is the property of Captain Dudley Norman, D.S.O. There are daily entries covering the greater part of 18 June 1868 - 17 February 1870. Events described in the diary include the deaths of several colleagues and a disagreement between Norman and Captain Faulkner.

Administrative / Biographical History

In 1868 Luke Norman joined a party of four officers and two paid engineers on an ivory-hunting expedition to the rivers Zambezi and Shire led by Captain Henry Faulkner.
