As early as 1901 it was proposed to build a Wesleyan Church on Carr House Road: a trust was set up to finance the project, and the funds raised were duly used for the purchase of a site at the junction of Sandy Lane and Carr House Road [see Doncaster Archives catalogue entry NM4/19/1]. In 1935 this particular scheme was abandoned and the land was sold, although the trust was evidently still in existence a quarter of a century later. Harold Wilkinson, whose building society book is here [ref. NM 79/3/3], is known to have been a trustee, and it is apparent that his account was closed in 1963 and the remaining funds were transferred to the societies of Harworth and Tickhill. This probably represented the trust's last act, and the plan to establish a new Methodist church at Carr House subsequently lay in abeyance until Doncaster Corporation's intentions for this part of the town created the conditions for its revival.
When redevelopment forced the closure of the Oxford Place Church in 1970, a new site was acquired for a replacement church just off Carr House Road, on St James Street, overlooking what is now the White Rose Way/Trafford Way roundabout. This church opened as Carr House Methodist Church on 21 June 1975. By this stage it had been recognized that the new church would be also be a replacement for Hyde Park Methodist Church - whose congregation the Oxford Place society had joined, ostensibly as a temporary measure, in 1970 - and so some records maintained at both Oxford Place and at Hyde Park and continued at Carr House can be found catalogued here. However, most of the records of the Oxford Place and Hyde Park societies are described elsewhere, under Doncaster Archives' catalogue references NM 4 and NM 29.
More recently the church has been known as Carr House Wesley Methodist Church, or, more simply, Carr House Wesley.
