Administrative / Biographical History
Gwent Constabulary was created on 1 April 1967 following the amalgamation of Monmouthshire Constabulary and Newport Borough Police. Monmouthshire Constabulary was formed in 1857 and the Newport Police established in 1836, both to replace the existing parish constables in enforcing the law.
