Llantarnam Urban District Council Records

Records of Llantarnam Urban District Council, 1891-1935.

Llantarnam Urban District Council (UDC), Monmouthshire, was established under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1894 and was coincident with the parish of Llanfihangel Llantarnam. The Council comprised councillors and a chairman and initially replaced the local sanitary authorities. Its responsibilities included sanitary services, sewerage, refuse collection, housing, streets, cemeteries, libraries, parks, controls on buildings such as petrol stations, and licensing of public entertainments. UDCs were administered by a number of committees and by appointed officers including a Clerk, Treasurer, Medical Officer of Health, Surveyor and Sanitary Inspector. Llantarnam UDC was abolished in 1935 to create Cwmbrân UDC, with a small portion transferred to Caerleon UDC.
