British Rail's Doncaster Wagon works became the first part of the national rail engineering operations to be privatised on 16 Oct 1987 when it was sold to the newly formed company, R F S Industries Limited. The company's directors were all former British Rail Engineering managers. Under the terms of the buy-out agreement,employees were to own 13% of the company's shares, which were to be allocated according to performance targets.
