Recipe Book of Mary Bennet

Scope and Content

The volume contains detailed household recipes for cakes, puddings, sweet and savoury pies and tarts, preserves and pickles, stews and other meat and fish dishes, and various wines and other beverages. The recipes are written in several hands, the principal one being a carefully constructed, rather child-like script. There is an index of recipes at the back of the volume. There are also numerous small sheets of paper enclosed, containing additional household and medicinal recipes, verses, a newscutting and a printed advertisement for embrocation.
