Administrative / Biographical History

Professor Judith Elkin is a pioneer of innovative children's library development. In 1971 she was appointed Head of the Central Children's Library in Birmingham where she was responsible for setting up a new children's library. From 1975 - 1978 she was Head of Services for Children and Young People with Birmingham Libraries. From 1983 she was a Senior Lecturer and the Dean of the Department of Librarianship and Information Studies at University of Central England, now Birmingham City University). Judith was presented with the Eleanor Farjeon Award for Services to Children's Literature in 1986. She became Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Worcester in 2003, Deputy Vice Chancellor Emeritus from 2009 and received a Fellowship in 2011.
