Scope and Content

Notes in various hands, mostly from published sources, concerning various landed families, namely: Chichester of Hall in Devon; Dennistoun of Dennistoun, Dunbartonshire; Jones of Ireland; Ludlow, Earl of Ludlow; Halliday of Squire's Hill, Antrim; and Christy of Apuldrefeld. The notes are bound together with a list of seats belonging to Roman Catholic gentlemen, 1819.

Purchased by Mrs Enriqueta Rylands, on behalf of the John Rylands Library, in 1901 from James Ludovic Lindsay, 26th Earl of Crawford.

Custodial History

Formerly part of the Bibliotheca Lindesiana, the Library of the Earls of Crawford and Balcarres, from Haigh Hall, Wigan, Lancashire. Former owner: Lord Farnham, K.P. The list of seats previously belonged to Captain Edward Jones 1st North Lancashire Militia (1821), Michael Jones, and Thomas Moule (1784-1851), antiquarian. The manuscripts were probably collected together by Mr Montague (1841).
