The Thorne Regeneration Project was launched in 1988 in order to revitalise the town which had been hit by the recession of the late 1970s and early 1980s. A regeneration plan was drawn up in 1987 and was implementedby the Civic Trust, the Countryside Commission, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, the Rural Development Commission and Thorne Town Council
