The Immigration and Nationality Collection contains material relating to the registration of individuals not of British Nationality and files from the passport division. Registration of so called aliens started during the First World War period. The collection also includes the occupation registration cards which are listed as part of the UNESCO UK Memory of the World programme. The registration cards were introduced during the German Occupation of the Channel Islands and the collections consists of over 31,000 identity cards for all those living in the Island who were over the age of 14.

Administrative / Biographical History
The Jersey Alien's Office became the Immigration and Nationality Department and is now part of the Jersey Customs & Immigration Service (JCIS). JCIS provides a strong and effective border control to protect Jersey from illegal immigration, the movement of prohibited or restricted goods, and loss of revenue from duty and tax evasion on imports. This collection relates to the work of the Immigration service in the 19th and 20th centuries.
