Scope and Content

From the late 19th century until 1957 responsibility for water provision in Monmouthshire lay with borough and rural district councils or sanitary authorities Following the Water Act 1945, water companies and boards began to amalgamate. The Usk River Board was formed as a result. The River Board became the Usk River Authority and later the Usk River Division of the Welsh National Water Development Authority in 1974. From 1979 it became the Welsh Water Authority - Usk Division.
