Administrative / Biographical History

This centre, provided by the West Riding of Yorkshire County Council was opened on 6 Jan 1936. Its purpose was to provide practical instruction for fifteen hours as week to unemployed boys over the compulsory school-leaving age of thirteen. Initial attendance was 310, but numbers were already in decline by the following year and the centre was closed on 14 October 1939.
