White family papers

Scope and Content

This large group of deeds and papers relates to the many properties held by the White family. There were two distinct branches, as may be seen from the attached pedigree, namely the London Whites (descended from William), and the Manchester Whites (descended from Thomas), but the majority of the holdings ended in the possession of John White, who became heir to both branches.

The deeds were in bundles relating to various properties, and so have been listed in this way. Land held included the New House estate at Sale, gardens at Cheetwood in Cheetham, land at Cranage Croft in Salford, farms at Gorton and Levenshulme, tenements and gardens in King Street (all in Manchester), the Vicarage of Audley in Staffordshire, and land at Bethnal Green and the manor of Mapesbury, both in Middlesex.
