Post-War Papers

Scope and Content

The few post-war papers in the archive are concerned with Auchinleck's continued interest in Pakistan and India, with John Connell's biography of the general (1959), and with the ongoing debate over Auchinleck's dismissal as Commander-in-Chief, Middle East, and his replacement by Alexander in August 1943, and the extent to which Alexander and Bernard Montgomery had adopted an existing plan by Auchinleck to defeat Rommel at Alam Halfa Ridge.
