Administrative / Biographical History

The firm of  James MacNab was founded by James Macnab, a printer who came to Glasgow from Muthill in Perthshire in 1840 and published for a time the Glasgow Constitutional newspaper. He printed some books, but eventually the firm concentrated on limited-run printing of commercial documents including circulars, forms, cards, and booklets on behalf of clients drawn from local businesses, churches, and associations. This small jobbing printing works appears in the Glasgow Post Office directories from 1864  until 1964 . The firm operated from premises at 11 Miller Street, Glasgow, Scotland, then at 45 West Nile Street, Glasgow and later at 106 West Nile Street, and finally at its last known address at 23 Bath Street.
