Administrative / Biographical History

Cardiff City Council was formed in 1973 under the Local Government Act 1972 and became formally operative in 1974. The council possessed powers of a District Council and succeeded the older authorities of Cardiff County Borough, and parts of Cardiff Rural District Council. The Council was abolished in 1996 and replaced by a new unitary authority - the County Council of the City and County of Cardiff
