ACCOUNTS OF PAGE-TURNER ESTATES

Scope and Content

This collection is made up of ten exercise books containing details of the accounts of estates in Ambrosden, Merton and Piddington, acquired by Sir Edward Turner in the mid-18th century. In 1775 Sir Edward's son, Gregory, took the name of Page on inheriting estates belonging to his great-uncle. He was succeeded by his son Sir Gregory Osborne Page-Turner, who held the lands until his death in 1843.

The accounts (covering the years 1781-1811) reflect the management of the woods, coppices and nurseries on the estates, and include information on payments made to specific tradesmen, as well as taxes for the church and poor. Each of the books has a distinctive design printed in the cover.

The document were purchased by the office in 1987 and given the accession number 2833.

Catalogued by Mark Priddey, November 1993.
