Administrative / Biographical History

Gelli Aur is a Country Park with sixty acres of wooded parkland surrounding a magnificent mansion. The Gelli Aur May Day Fayre started in 1986 and was run by the Gelli Aur Appeals Committee. The main purpose of the fayre was to raise money for local charities and groups, and local causes were encouraged to take up stalls in the fayre to raise awareness and money. The fayre also supported local craftsmen and demonstrations were given of age old crafts like basket weaving. Later in the fayres history it included a food market helping local producers to market their goods. Towards the end of the fayres history it was under a great deal of financial pressure and came to an end in 2008 after 22 years. Only once in 2005 did the fayre not take place due to complications over the sale of the Gelli Aur estate.
