Scope and Content

A large collection of documents relating to the Trust's work, including newsletters (national and local groups) [GDC/1/1]; records of the national group, including correspondence, minutes and reports [GDC/1/2]; documents relating to regional groups [GDC/1/3], with a separate section for the Surrey groups [GDC/1/4].

Administrative / Biographical History

The Breakthrough Trust was a registered charity, which provided advocacy and advisory services for the Deaf, and supported various initiatives and projects to advance the inclusion of Deaf people. It helped develop better telecommunication services such as text phones during the 1970s. The charity had offices in London, Birmingham and several other locations, and maintained a number of regional groups. Since 2002, it has been known as deaf Plus.
