DONCASTER, NATIONAL PARISH CHURCH OF ENGLAND INFANTS SCHOOL RECORDS

Scope and Content

Comprising: logbooks 1867-1943; admission registers 1907-1948

Administrative / Biographical History

Founded in 1816, this school was originally housed in a building in West Laithe Gate, until the building of a new school adjacent to the parish church in 1867. The old building is marked as 'Doncaster National Schools' on the 1854 edition (6" : 1 mile scale) Ordnance Survey map. An entry in the last log book (SR.14/1/3) in June 1943 notes that at this time the school merged with the Junior Mixed School (see SR.15) and ceased to be a separate department. In 1953 the school became Doncaster St Georges (Controlled) CE Infants School and moved to new premises on Clay Lane.
