Troughton Family Papers.

The bulk of these letters are addressed to Anna Helen Troughton of Beaumaris. She was the daughter of Margaret [d. 1751] co. heires of Bodlew Llandaniel and Henry Troughton of Little Berkhamstead, Hertfordshire. Although referred to as Mrs. Troughton she remained a spinster all her life, and was buried on December 24 1812 at Llanddaniel Fab. Many of her letters are from Catharina Margaretta Allott of Whitehaven Cumberland. She was the daughter of Mary, a niece of Anna Helen who married the Revd. Bryan Allott, so Maria Allott although she greets Anna as her 'cousin' was really her great niece. The remainder came from Anna Helen's various relatives some of whom lived in the West Indies, Ellis Troughton being a prime example and who appears to have been her favourite nephew. Their contents deal mainly with family and local affairs, but sometimes the writer includes national and international events such as ravages of the French fleet in the West Indies in 1805.
