WHEATLEY URBAN DISTRICT COUNCIL

Scope and Content

Wheatley Urban District was created under the Local Government Act, 1894. It superseded the Local Board of Health. It was abolished in 1932 by the Oxfordshire Review Order (R015) and became part of the newly formed Bullingdon Rural District (see RDC3 catalogue).

In common with other rural and urban district councils, amongst its many responsibilities Wheatley UDC was responsible for public health, housing, rating, planning, building regulations, water supplies, sewerage and some roads.

In addition to the main Wheatley UDC archive, the first Wheatley UDC minute book contains minutes of the Wheatley Local Board, Apr/1881-Jan1895 (UDC3/1/A1/1).

The collection was originally catalogued as Wheatley UDC (accession numbers 740, 918, 1117, 1507 & 1548) and was recatalogued by Rachel Hancock in Oct 2016.
