Business records

Scope and Content

Records relating to the firm of Rylands and Sons, mainly dating from the incorporation of the company in 1873, although there are some earlier documents.

Arrangement

The majority of the archive had previously been numbered, though these numbers would seem to make no logical sense, and a previous list takes little notice of them. The collection was divided according to administrative function during some point in its life, and this arrangement, being the most convenient for readers, has been maintained. Four boxes filled with unnumbered, miscellaneous documents have been sorted to comply with the above. Thus the archive is divided into:

  • RYL/1/1: Corporate records;
  • RYL/1/2: Accounting and financial records;
  • RYL/1/3: Promotion and marketing records;
  • RYL/1/4: Personnel records;
  • RYL/1/5: Legal records.
