Administrative / Biographical History

This school was purpose built by West Riding County Council to cater for children aged between 9 and 13 years. It opened on 10 September 1970 with 184 pupils aged between 4 and 12 years in order to relieve over-crowding in neighbouring primary schools. In 1974, due to local government reforms the school came under the administrative control of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council. The Infants department closed in July 1974 and by September it was fully operational as a middle school only taking pupils from the upper age range. The school closed as a middle school in July 1995 in order to become part of Hatfield High School. This will enable the school to take pupils from 11 to 18 years, rather than from the age of 13.
