Administrative / Biographical History

This school was originally Armthorpe Council Senior Mixed School opened in 1929. In August 1938 the school was divided into separate boys and girls departments with the girls housed in new premises built on Mere Lane. For records of the Senior Mixed School and the Boys Department, which later became Armthorpe County Secondary Modern Boys School (see SR46). After the 1944 Education Act the school became a secondary modern school for girls. In September 1962 the two modern schools merged to form Armthorpe Secondary Modern Mixed School (SR52).
