Administrative / Biographical History

Dr Alexander (Sandy) Hutchison was born in 1943 and brought up in Buckie, a fishing town on the north-east coast of Scotland. After graduating from Aberdeen University Sandy travelled to North America and Canada where he lived for 18 years. Sandy taught at various institutions on the Pacific north-west coast of Canada including the University of Victoria's English Department. Sandy undertook his doctorate on Roethke at Northwestern University whilst living in Chicago.

Sandy returned to Scotland in 1984 and worked for several years in the Department of Education and Staff Development at the (then) University of Paisley, now the University of the West of Scotland. Sandy published a number of books of poetry as well as a series of broadsheets and was Chair of the Arts Development Group of UWS. Sandy sadly died in November 2015 after a short illness.
