Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
This school was built by the West Riding County Council in about 1911 as a Junior Mixed School for children aged between 7 and 11 years and was originally known as Bentley Road Council School. Doncaster Archives holds the plans for two temporary schools on Kirkby Avenue which were approved on 26 February 1910 by Bentley with Arksey Urban District Council (ref. UDBEN/6/1/200). A later plan approved on 27 May 1925 is for a new Girls and Infants School on Kirkby Avenue (ref. UDBEN/6/3/615) and alterations were made to the boys and girls departments in 1931 (ref. UDBEN/6/3/1039). As a result of local government reforms the school came under the administrative control of Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council in 1974. The school closed in July 1995 in order to amalgamate with Bentley Kirkby Avenue Infants School for 4 to 7 year olds. The new Bentley Kirkby Avenue Primary School utilizes both buildings and provides education for children aged between 4 and 11 years.
