French Revolution Scrapbooks

Scope and Content

This collection of scrapbooks were compiled by Richardson, and are divided into 3 sequences. They constitute a rich source for studying Richardson’s responses to national and international events in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Richardson’s annotations are evident throughout, recording dates, and additional manuscript additions relating to the cost of binding the volumes. All carry the bookplate of Richardson’s nephew, Richard Henry Roundell. The collection is divided into the following sequences:

  • 1. The French Revolution and its Consequences (vols. II, VI-XV, XVII-XXI, as well as another volume with unreadable number);
  • 2. History of the French Revolution (vols. I, III-V);
  • 3. Historical and Miscellaneous Register (vols. IV-XI, XIII, XIV and XVI as well as two other volumes with unreadable numbers).
