DOCUMENTS CONCERNING EXCAVATIONS AT KIRTLINGTON QUARRY

Scope and Content

These documents were given to the Archives in 1980, and assigned the Accession number 1957.

Excavations took place at Kirtlington Quarry during Nov. 1974-Sep. 1975. During the course of these, several teeth belonging to mammals from the Middle Jurassic period (about 165 million years ago) and dinosaurs of the same period were found. Work was led by Dr. Martin Ware and Eric Freeman, two amateur palaeontologists, with help from staff at University College, London. The major finds from the excavation are discussed in the items below.

Catalogued by Robin Darwall-Smith in September 1993.
