Family Records of Ivor, Mervyn and Morgan Hilary Evans

Scope and Content

Service records of Ivor Evans who served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. A scrap book containing press cuttings of Mervyn Evans walk across America and Press cuttings of an armed robbery at Flint Railway Station where Morgan Evans was the Booking Clerk. Also an envelope containing wedding flowers possibly worn by Cecilia Evans (nee Morgans) at her wedding to Hugh Evans which took place in June 1922 in Llanrwst, Denbighshire.

Ivor Evans, Idwal Mervyn Evans and Morgan Hilary Evans are the sons of Hugh (1890-1962 and Cecilia (Cissie) Elizabeth Evans ( nee Morgan). The bulk of the collection relates to Ivor who served with the Royal Navy joining as a Boy sailor in 1939 and leaving as a Naval Airman Aircraft handler in 1953. He served throughout the Second World War and was awarded the following Medals: The 1939-1945 Star, The Atlantic Star, The Pacific Star and a 1939-1945 George VI Silver Medal. Whilst serving on HMS Chaser he went on a tour of the devastation caused by the atomic Bomb dropped on Hiroshima (August 1945) this was within 10 months of the event as he left HMS Chaser in May 1946. Idwal Mervyn Evans joined the Army becoming a Staff Sergeant Instructor with the Army Physical training Corp. He Married Gladys A Franklin in Hitchin Hertfordshire in 1948 whilst still serving in the Army. The collection has a number of Press cuttings relating to the then World Record Walk across the USA from San.Francisco to New York (3,022 miles). The walk was undertaken with Flt-Sgt Patrick Moloney and was completed in June 1960 and took a total of 66 days. The collection relates to the youngest brother Morgan Hilary Evans in terms of a series of photographs taken whilst on holiday in Spain with his wife Patricia Evans (nee Maria del Patrocinio Garcia Valdivia). Also some press cuttings relating to an Armed Robbery in April 1982 at Flint Railway Station where Morgan was working as a Booking Clerk.
