TITLE DEEDS OF EVETTS FAMILY OF TACKLEY

Scope and Content

This collection consists mainly of property title deeds, although there are also a few wills, letters, insurance papers, court orders and judgments, and historical notes.

Most of the records relate to the conveying of various premises in Tackley parish (including the hamlet of Nethercott), the exceptions dealing with property in Kirtlington, the city of Oxford, Cowley, and Hitchenden (or Hughenden) in Buckinghamshire.

Tackley Local History Group worked on these documents before they were placed in this office on permanent loan in January 1983 (accession 2099). Typed notes about based on their research into some of the families and estates mentioned in the deeds, as well as a map based on the parish tithe award showing field names, can be located in the first box of documents.

The catalogue is divided into sections based on the properties covered by the deeds. Those which do not relate to Tackley are listed at the end. The dates for pre-1752 documents have been modernised, and where a will was proved, the date given is that of probate (the date the will was written is then included in the main descriptive text).

Catalogued by Mark Priddey, Feb.1996.
