These papers consist of material accrued by John Murray Watt during his medical education at the Victoria Manchester University, and some ephemeral items collected during his career as a GP.

Administrative / Biographical History

Doctor John Murray Watt (1923-1986) was brought up in Walkden near Manchester, and was the son of Dr Thomas David Watt who had qualified as a GP during the First World War. John Murray Watt entered Manchester University Medical School in 1941 and should have qualified in 1947, but after having to repeat a year, qualified with an MB ChB in 1948. He went into partnership with Dr Raymond Judson and they each held surgeries in their houses; Dr Judson in Cheadle Hulme and Dr Watt in Handforth. Dr John Murray Watt worked at the health centres in Smithy Green and Handforth before his retirement in 1983, and his death in 1986.
