Administrative / Biographical History

Cardiff Corinthians AFC was started in 1898 as an offshoot of the Alpha Cricket Club as a means of keeping company during winter. The club became recognised as one of the most famous and respected amateur clubs in Wales, and was a founder member of the Welsh League and the South Wales Amateur League. Early games were held in Sophia Gardens. In 1904 the club joined the Rhymney Valley League and took part in the Welsh Amateur Cup soon afterwards and the English FA Amateur Cup in 1911 setting a precedent for its entry into the Welsh Cup and English FA Cup. In 1921 the club joined the English Western League, switching to the Welsh League in 1924. The club had several grounds including Corinthian Park in Rhiwbina, Pengam Farm up to 1937, Cae Syr Dafydd in Canton c.1945-c.1968, and Llandaff Fields, but in 1973 it joined with Radyr Cricket Club to form a parent club Radyr Athletic Club at Riverside Ground (though Cardiff Corinthians and RCC maintained their separate identity). Previously CCAFC had been based successively at various grounds including Corinthian Park, Rhiwbina. The club has achieved notable sporting success including the winning of the Welsh Amateur Cup on six occasions.
