Administrative / Biographical History

This school on Barnby Dun Road, Clay Lane opened as Curlew Junior Mixed School on 3 March 1958 providing education for 158 children aged between seven and eleven years. The school was built to take the children from the Clay Lane housing estate when it was found that existing provision at the Kingfisher School was inadequate for the numbers seeking places. During this time, the school was also known as Curlew Primary School, as the booklet for the official opening indicates (SR141/8/1). In September 1977, the school opened as Curlew Middle School taking pupils aged between eight and twelve years. Curlew Middle School and St George's First School amalgamated in July 1994, re-opening in September as St Aidan's CE Primary School for children aged between four and eleven.
