Administrative / Biographical History

This opened as a mixed school and was situated next to the Infants' Department (see SR35) between High Street and Cooke Street in Bentley. Both schools were opened in 1877 according to an entry on page 1 of the Infants' Department log book (SR35/1/1). From 1 April 1930 children from the Infants' Department were transferred to this school and the school then became a Junior Mixed and Infants school. In July 1937 the school closed as a JMI school with the juniors transferring to Bentley New Village School (see SR57). It remained open as an Infants' school. Entries from 23 August to 18 October 1937 inclusive have been copied into the Cooke Street Infants' School log book (SR35/1/3). It is assumed that any records listed here after July 1937 relate to the Cooke Street Infants' School.
