      5 folders containing 123 pieces. Condition: some pieces are dirty; the newspaper cuttings (pieces 116-123) are fragile and have been enclosed in melinex wallets.

Scope and Content

Miscellaneous papers accumulated by officials of the NMU. Most of the material dates from the post-1913, presumably when proper minute books were not being kept. The material in the files includes manuscript and typed minutes, lists of members and reports of the Union's activities.

  • /22 Notice dated 8 June 1912 outlining views of the Union on NI scheme.
  • /30 Memorandum "Policy of the National Medical Union", outlining alternative health insurance scheme.
  • /31 Copy letter J. Webster Watts to Dr Picton n.d, comments on NMU insurance scheme (Picton was an original proponent of the 'deposit' scheme of national insurance taken up by the Union.
  • /32 Memorandum, "Vital points of difference between the Stockport Scheme and the National Insurance Act"; the Stockport scheme was a deposit scheme of insurance supported by the Union.
  • /33 Stockport, Macclesfield and East Cheshire Provisional Medical Committee, "Explanatory memorandum of scheme of public medical service of the Stockport, Macclesfield and E. Cheshire District" [a Committee of the District BMA].
