Historical files

Scope and Content

This series contains files of material relating to the history of hospitals, societies and other institutions, and biographical material relating to leading figures in orthopaedics and surgical education. These files contain a wide range of documentation, including secondary material such as publications and promotional material giving historical information, and published obituaries and biographies. Many of the files include and notes and drafts for obituaries and for historical lectures and addresses by Platt. They also contain correspondence and memoranda relating to the practices at the institution concerned and relating to the whereabouts of surviving archive material. Material in these files was kept by Platt partly out of a general interest and for posterity, but was also used by Platt for the compilation of lectures and addresses. Researchers interested in any of the institutions or individuals named would find useful information in this series.

Material similar in nature to that contained in this series can also be found in the series of Lectures and working papers, in particular the file on surgical education at PLA/5/8 and the other working papers at PLA/5/10. There is also a substantial amount of material relating to the history of the Royal College of Surgeons, and biographical material relating to important figures in the College, at PLA/9/1/3.

Arrangement
