"Pleasant Friday Afternoons" were informal gatherings of members of the Departments of Zoology and Botany, established by Professors Hickson and F.E. Weiss [botany] in 1895. Typically, the meetings would discuss recent publications in areas of interest and provide demonstrations of specimens. Meetings were held weekly, and appear to been a popular fixture. The last meeting recorded in these volumes was in February 1926, although it is not known if the group continued to meet after this date.
