Administrative / Biographical History
The General Electric Vectra MR Imaging system, the second NMR scanner in the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, was unveiled by Sir Godfrey Hounsfield on 7th August 1991. At a strength of 0.5 Tesla, it was the most sophisticated machine to date and cost 1m to install. It was financed by the Cancer Research Campaign and the Regional Health Authority. The Vectra replaced the 0.26 Tesla scanner which had been installed in the Department in 1983.
