Scope and Content

Pierre Jean Fabre. The Book of universall wisedome or All Chymistry. Wherin the nature of man is demonstrated, his soule searched into, and of what kind it is, is shewed, his spirit manifested, and the elements of mans body are shewed, and all the diseases therof to be cured and the life to be prolonged, are proposed, and the secrets of doing these are manifested. A work acceptable and very usefull to all, but especially to Physicians. By Peter John Faber of Castrinovidariu [Castelnaudary] Doctor of Physic in Monpiliers, and now a Counselour and Physician to the King of france. 17th century. Translation of Sapientia universalis, which was published at Frankfurt in 1656. At the end there are six pages of index in a different hand. Stamped: 'Sir T P [Thomas Phillipps] Middle Hill' and inscribed: Phillipps MS 2624.' This was one of the manuscripts which Phillipps bought from Thomas Thorpe in 1836. It was acquired by John Ferguson in October 1896.
