Correspondence of William Waugh, relating to requests for information and photographs relating to John Charnley for his biography of [John Charnley: the man and the hip].

There is discussion of Bury, and of Charnley’s childhood, family and schooling. There is also information about his time at University, war service, and early career at Manchester Royal Infirmary, King’s College, London, and Salford Royal Hospital.

There is reference to an advertisement in Bury Times of information on Charnley, and comments and corrections on drafts of the chapters of the biography on Charnley’s early years.

Also included are articles on Charnley’s knighthood, and an obituary for Charnley in the Bury Times, 1982, and articles on the Charnley Foundation Appeal and trust fund in This Week, 1983 – 1984.
