Scope and Content

The manuscript contains a chronological list of labours attended by Windsor, beginning when he was in Sheffield and running up to July 1868, just two months before his death, in Manchester. He moved to Manchester in 1815 and this is indicated here with his first delivery there being on 8 June 1815 and his last in Sheffield on 25 January 1815.

For each entry he gives the date, surname, and street as well as whether the woman was delivered of a girl or a boy. Up until 24 June 1818 he also provides a running total of how many children of each sex he had delivered, ending on 339 boys and 269 girls. From this point on he just indicates whether the child was male or female.

He also makes reference to miscarriages and premature births and lists the births of his own children on one page towards the rear. His children in chronological order are Margaret, a still-born boy, Isabella, Thomas, Elizabeth, Mary, John, James, William, and Joseph. Again towards the rear of the volume he describes the case of a 37 year old woman with hepatic inflammation, written upside down compared to the rest of the text.

Folios 145-158 are blank.
