Dr Rawal qualiifed in medicine from the Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi in 1971, and took further training in anesthetics in the UK. She held posts at Hope and Withington hospitals, and was consultant anaesthetist at Macclesfield Hospital from 1982.
