Scope and Content

Letters from Ruskin and John James Ruskin to Peter Bayne (1830-1896), author and journalist, as follows: 

  • (a) numbers 1-4 (January 1859 - July 1859), from John James Ruskin;
  • (b) numbers 5-57 (March 1855 - March 1887) from Ruskin;
  • (c) number 58 verses apparently in Bayne's hand. Number 36 includes a copy by Bayne of a reply (11 October 1877) to a letter from Ruskin of 10 October.

Purchased by the John Rylands Library at auction at Christie's on 19 November 1958 (Lot 162).
