A group of material relating to Strachan's interest in fine printing, typography and calligraphy. Strachan established the Typographical and Calligraphic Society for the boys at Bishop's Stortford College in 1948, and initiated annual calligraphy prizes, also submitting the boys' work for national competitions and for exhibition. WJS/14/2 consists of correspondence and papers relating to these activities and the wider interest they generated from teachers at other schools. There are also examples of limited edition publications, exhibition catalogues and calligraphy samples, which are either inscribed to or annotated by Strachan. In addition there is a grouping of more general background material accumulated by Strachan (WJS/14/3) which includes samples of printing by private presses, lithography samples, catalogues, and journals relating to typography and private press printing.
